The streets of Southeast, DC, rang with the clamor of justice being served as the Robbery Suppression Unit clapped handcuffs on five males, simultaneously reclaiming four firearms from the grip of potential violence. On a Tuesday that will long resonate in the 1400 block of Howard Road, enforcement efforts reached a crescendo with the arrest of two teenagers and three young adults entangled in a web of charges ranging from firearms violations to the pilfering of property.

These arrests were a climax, not merely of an intensive patrol, but of a narrative that courts have been too slow to respond. Two 16-year-olds, known to the local streets of Southeast, carry now the weight of charges that include an outstanding Failure to Appear warrant and counts related to illegal possession of pistols and ammunition. One of the duo faces an additional gravity with the charge of Unlawful Possession of a Machine Gun, as detailed by MPDC's official release.

The twist came when three other suspects, in their bid to escape the long arm of the law, were apprehended post-haste. Their attempted flight was cut short as one of them was caught in the act of discarding a gun. An eye for truth revealed that their vehicle was none other than stolen, further complicating their already muddied legal view.

Of these three, 20-year-old Deandre Johnson was slapped with charges of Unlawful Entry, Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle, and intent to distribute Marijuana. Quontay Spinks, at just 18, and Mekhi Mazyck, 19, both joined Johnson in the charges of Unlawful Entry and Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle. Spinks added the lament of Receiving Stolen Property and Leaving After Colliding to his list, while Mazyck was further accused of carrying a Pistol without a License among other infractions, as per information obtained from the Metropolitan Police Department.

Further investigation beckoned Mazyck into deeper waters as detectives linked him to property destruction and a Burglary Two offense in late March, as well as an incident involving Endangerment with a Firearm. The cases against the accused will continue to unfold as investigations proceed.
