A teenage suspect is now in custody for the fatal shooting of a 14-year-old boy at a DC Metro station, police said Wednesday. The 16-year-old, whose name has not been disclosed due to his minor status, was arrested and charged with the killing of Avion Evans.
Tragedy unfolded on the afternoon of April 4 at the Brookland-Catholic University Metro Station, when police were called to the scene at approximately 3:59 p.m. They found young Evans, a Northeast resident, suffering from fatal gunshot wounds. Attempts to save his life were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead right where he fell. The Metropolitan Police detailed the incident in a statement, which noted that the 16-year-old was subsequently apprehended following a DC Superior Court custody order.
Charged with second-degree murder while armed, this teenager from the Northwest of the city now faces grave legal repercussions. The Metro Transit Police Department was credited by the MPD for their cooperative efforts in the fast-responding investigation which led to the quick apprehension of the suspect.
The metropolitan community has been left to reel in the wake of such a youth-on-youth violence. The Metro Transit Police Department's partnership has been hailed by Metropolitan Police, who mentioned in their public recognition, "The Metropolitan Police Department would like to thank the Metro Transit Police Department for their continued partnership and assistance with this investigation."
