A 16-year-old boy tragically lost his life in a high-speed crash following a police chase in Barry County, Michigan, officials reported. The pursuit, which took place late Tuesday night, spiraled into disaster when the teen's vehicle veered off Coats Road and slammed into multiple trees, resulting in his ejection from the car, WWJ Newsradio reported.

Officers from the Michigan State Police were called to the scene west of M-66 in Castleton Township where the unnamed teenager, originally hailing from the Woodland area, which lies just a stone's throw north from the accident site, was found critically injured and despite being rushed to the hospital for advanced care, the young driver died, FOX 17 confirmed no other individuals were involved in the crash.

The pursuit began after a Barry County sheriff's deputy attempted to pull over the teen for speeding as WOODTV cited, but the suspect refused to stop, a decision leading to the fatal outcome. While the authorities have yet to confirm whether substances played a role in the teen's ability to drive safely, or whether he was wearing his seatbelt at the crash's moment.

This string of dangerous pursuits has previously left another teen seriously injured and caused the death of 25-year-old Samuel Sterling, investigators are now probing deeper into the chase protocols and their subsequent ramifications.
