Chaos unfolded on Tomales Bay Saturday afternoon when a leisurely boat trip took a chilling turn, stranding seven people in the cold waters. Responding to a distress call around 3pm, the Marin County Fire Department and other agencies launched an ardent rescue operation.
It was a lucky twist of fate that no lives were lost as both the Coast Guard and local fire and law enforcement agencies swooped in to swiftly rescue the six adults and one child found clinging desperately to their capsized vessel. The victims, fighting hypothermia, were plucked from the unforgiving bay by timely rescuers who feared the worst had they arrived minutes later.
According to an X post from Marin County Fire from @marincountyfire, paramedics evaluated all individuals on the scene. Three of the boat's former passengers were deemed in need of further medical attention and were transported to a local hospital bearing minor injuries. The remainder were released after necessary warming measures brought their body temperatures back to a safer range.
