A hail of gunfire erupted on a West Philadelphia street late Wednesday night, leaving two teenagers wounded and a stray bullet narrowly missing a sleeping woman, authorities have confirmed. According to FOX29, a 17-year-old was shot in the arm, while a 20-year-old woman had a jarring brush with death when a bullet came through her window and lodged itself into the wall of her bedroom.

The chaotic scene unfolded around 10:30 p.m. on the 100 block of North Redfield Street, where police say more than 40 shell casings were discovered. Despite being shot in the shoulder, one of the injured teens managed to abruptly seek out a police officer for help. Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small detailed to NBC Philadelphia how officers then attended to the second boy who was found with a chest wound and described as critically hurt.

The intensity of the incident was evident in the aftermath, with shattered glass and bullets impacting nearby vehicles and homes. Neither motive nor suspects have been identified yet, although Inspector Scott Small disclosed to 6ABC that one shooter was wielding a rifle. Law enforcement is voraciously pursuing leads, hoping area surveillance footage will aid in apprehending the suspected perpetrators.
