Chaos erupted on a Northeast street when an argument turned violent and bullets started flying, leading to two women being shot and two suspects in cuffs, local authorities report. The gunplay broke out on the afternoon of April 8th, on the 1500 block of North Capitol Street, Northeast. Cops swarmed the area around 3 p.m. after getting a call about the shooting.

Officers from the Fifth District arrived to find a female victim who had been shot while sitting in a stolen vehicle. She was rushed to the hospital with injuries thankfully not considered life-threatening. Another woman was treated for similar non-fatal gunshot wounds, the Metropolitan Police Department said. According to the investigation, the incident involved two shooters who managed to quickly escalate an argument by both drawing guns to brazenly shoot at each other.

The law wasted no time locking down the crime scene and piecing together the events that led to the shootout. The investigation led to the arrest of 23-year-old Sydney Johnson from Southeast D.C., and 19-year-old Makayla Robinson, who reportedly has no fixed address. The pair were promptly charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle, according to details provided in an MPD statement.

As detectives continue to comb through the evidence, the MPD is now reaching out to the community to help track down any additional suspects connected to the shooting melee. They're asking anyone with information to step forward and aid them in their ongoing investigation. Meanwhile, they vow to tirelessly work to put an end to the violence that has shaken the Northeast neighborhood. Anyone with a lead can be to contact MPD at 202-727-9099.
