A gunshot shattered the calm of an El Monte neighborhood early Saturday morning, leaving a woman dead and local authorities seeking assistance from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. The incident, which took place around 3:35 a.m. on the 3800 block of Penn Mar Avenue, has left community members reeling and authorities scrambling for leads, according to the LASD - Los Angeles County Sheriffs Dept Information Bureau.

Upon arrival at the scene, law enforcement officers found the female victim unresponsive and pronounced her deceased shortly thereafter, as reported by the LASD - Los Angeles County Sheriffs Dept Information Bureau.
