A Belizean man, previously booted out of the US, is headed back to the slammer after a federal jury in Del Rio nailed him for sneaking back into the country. Francis Kerr, also known as Francis Deon Flowers, 51, was nabbed on August 22, 2023, near Eagle Pass by the border patrol, and now he's been found guilty of illegal re-entry, the US Attorney's Office announced yesterday.

After already being deported back in 2009, Kerr thought he could game the system, but a trial flushed out his history, including a hefty 17-year sentence for robbery and assault chucking him out of the States over a decade ago. The accused, hailing from Belmopan, Belize, had his cover blown after officials got wind of his past convictions in Los Angeles, which included two counts of 2nd-degree robbery, four counts of assault with a firearm, not to mention the conspiracy to commit robbery thrown into the mix.

The case, throwing the book at Kerr, was announced by U.S. Attorney Jaime Esparza of the Western District of Texas, according to a release from the Department of Justice. It's another notch in the belt for the efforts of Customs and Immigration Services and the U.S. Border Patrol, who are investigating the tangles of illegal immigration.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys Paul Markovits and Joshua Garland led the charge against Kerr, prosecuting the case that's now concluded with a conviction. It's a clear signal that dodging deportation orders and sneaking into the country doesn't pay off, and now Kerr's looking at yet another stint behind bars, precisely where officials say he belongs after flouting U.S. laws, trying to escape his checkered past.
