Mark your calendars for a cultural extravaganza as the Puerto Rican Festival returns to Humboldt Park in Chicago from June 6 to June 9, to celebrate the 46th anniversary of Puerto Rican heritage in the city. The event will kick off with a community-centric free day on June 6 and will culminate on June 9 with National Puerto Rican Day celebrations, according to the Daily Herald.

With something for everyone, the festival called Fiestas Patronales Puertorriqueñas, promises new art installations, live music, and a plethora of activities. "It deserves to be the place where we express all versions of our creative and artistic selves," Ald. Jessie Fuentes intoned, the Chicago Sun-Times reported. A highlight of the celebration, the Puerto Rican People's Parade will make its grand procession at noon on June 8, along the storied Division Street's Paseo Boricua.

The festival is stepping up its game with a list of fresh experiences including a platano cook-off, still open for aspiring chefs, and a tutorial on making traditional lechón asado given by firefighter Benjamin Diaz. Not to be outdone, the gastronomic offerings from 23 vendors will feature delights like "Puerto Rico in a Cup" from restaurant Ponce – a concoction of plantains, kabobs, and rice. Musical vibes will be served by 25 local Puerto Rican DJs, ensuring festival-goers can shake it to the beats throughout the four-day jamboree, the Chicago Sun-Times disclosed.

For those who love the thrill, get ready to experience extreme rides provided by Modern Midways, including the Double Sky Wheel and Hyper Loop 360. In between rides, attendees can savor the vibe of a 60-foot-long photo maze, which is stated to feature designs from various artists, "Come ready to take selfies all weekend long," Michelle Gomez events director of the festival, told Chicago Sun-Times. The festival will not only entertain but also contribute to a cause, with proceeds supporting the Tu Casa Project, a local initiative aimed at empowering the Chicago Latino community.
