Comal ISD's winter guard teams are showing off their colors after achieving top spots in state competitions this spring. Smithson Valley High School snagged a third-place win, while Davenport High School secured fourth place in their respective divisions. Competing in front of a panel of judges, the performances were reviewed for movement, design, equipment, and overall impact at the Texas Color Guard Circuit held at Texas A&M University on April 6.
Each school brought their A-game, fighting valiantly in a competition that was both fierce and fraught with the flourishes of flags and the balletic spin of rifles. Representing the only 4A team to make it to the state in their division, Davenport High School stands out with their achievement. According to Comal ISD's announcement, they competed against larger 5A and 6A schools but still managed to place fourth with a score of 82.375.
Not to be outdone, Smithson Valley High School won bronze in the Scholastic AA division, as reported by KENS 5, showcasing a strong performance that earned them a score of 78.065. Alongside these two, Canyon Lake High School also advanced to the state contest, contributing to Comal ISD's overall representation at the state-level competition.
Adding to the honors, the Davenport High School Winter Guard team was recognized at the Comal ISD Board of Trustees meeting on May 16 for their impressive performance at the state competition. Comal ISD officials have published the names of the talented student participants from each school, including the faculty leaders responsible for guiding them to success. The dedication of these young performers and their instructors reflects a commitment to excellence that reverberates throughout the Comal ISD community.
