A District of Columbia man has been slapped with a 10-count indictment over a chaotic and bloody house party shootout last year, according to a statement by the U.S. Attorney's Office. Darrious Johnson, 23, faces charges including assault with intent to kill after he reportedly opened fire at a gathering in the Hillbrook neighborhood, resulting in a serious arm injury to one adult who was holding an infant at the time.
The grand jury's indictment, filed on May 16, charged Johnson with two counts of assault with intent to kill while armed for targeting adults, and one count for similarly assaulting a minor, among other firearm-related offenses, this violence leaving not only physical wounds but a deep, haunting scar in the community. U.S. Attorney Matthew M. Graves and MPD Chief Pamela A. Smith announced the charges, stating the brazen assault unfolded after an altercation at the party, Johnson allegedly fetching a gun and shooting from the stairs into the living room packed with adults and children.
The shooting investigation, led by the Metropolitan Police Department, has now moved onto the prosecution stage. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Anthony Cocuzza, Megan McFadden, and Sabena Auyeung are handling the case, presenting evidence that paints a grisly picture of the night's events. According to the government’s evidence, Johnson neglected all regard for human life as he sprayed the room with bullets, an adult victim was caught in the gunfire while cradling an infant—thankfully, the child was unharmed.
