A teen has been charged with a brazen shooting that left a community shaken and four people injured, including two innocent children, at a Detroit park. Alvin Noble, age 17, faces serious charges including attempted murder and felony firearm, after the violent incident on May 1. The Detroit News reported that Noble could face life in prison if convicted of the crimes committed in a place where citizens, "young and older, start enjoying the warmer weather in our city parks," as Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy described.
In details surrounding the arraignment, it has been said that Noble's sister was involved in a dispute that escalated to the point where Noble allegedly arrived with a gun and opened fire. Following a suspected phone call from his sister, the gunfire resulted in four casualties just before 9 p.m. at a park near the intersection of Faust and Westfield avenues. According to The Detroit News, the tragic unfolding was caught on video.
The bond set for Noble was $500,000 cash, as per a magisterial decision, citing concerns about the safety of the community. Despite requests from Noble's attorney for house arrest, given that the teen had no juvenile criminal history, CBS News Detroit noted that the magistrate favored a more stringent measure to ensure community safety.
The victims, in a spate of violence where unintended targets were struck, included an 18-year-old girl shot in the head, another 18-year-old girl shot in the back, a 6-year-old girl with a leg wound, and a 2-year-old boy injured in the buttocks area. As prosecutors articulated, all but one of those injured were not involved in the altercation that led Noble to purportedly draw and use his weapon. While Noble's arraignment has concluded, a bond redetermination hearing is scheduled for May 13, and a preliminary examination will follow on May 23.
