The elusive yet multitalented Donald Glover, also known by his stage name Childish Gambino, is making a long-awaited comeback to the touring scene with a schedule that includes a stop in Austin, Texas. Fans throughout Texas have been waiting over half a decade to watch the creative juggernaut perform live, and as revealed earlier this week, they won't have to wait much longer. According to Express News, Childish Gambino's tour, dubbed "The New World Tour", will grace the stage at the Moody Center on Sept. 10, making it a hot ticket for those eager to witness his artistry in person.
Glover, who has seamlessly juggled identities as a singer, songwriter, rapper, actor, and director, is set to launch this extensive tour on August 11 in Oklahoma City before circling through multiple North American cities. Fans desperate to ensure a chance to see Gambino perform live might want to take advantage of a presale beginning tomorrow, May 15, with general sales slated to start Friday, May 17, according to an announcement on the artist's Instagram account. Adding to the allure, Glover is bringing along some top-notch talent for these shows, including Willow Smith and Amaarae, promising to give attendees a truly dynamic concert experience.
Amid this big announcement, we've also learned that Glover has been simultaneously crafting another album meant to complement an upcoming film titled "Bando Stone and the New World." While details remain shrouded in mystery, it's clear that the entertainer is not one to rest on his laurels. In effect, the upcoming tour and associated projects signify more than just Glover's return to live performances; they are manifestations of his continued evolution as a prolific creator.
As if to reinforce his status as an innovator, "ATAVISTA" is Glover's ingenious update to an album originally released - and then removed - in 2020. With added tracks "Atavista" and "Human Sacrifice," joining the ranks of powerful collaborations, "ATAVISTA" is being touted as “the finished version” of “3.15.20." KSAT further shared that the album drop was celebrated with a music video for "Little Foot Big Foot," directed by Hiro Murai and featuring talents such as Quinta Brunson and Rob Bynes, showcasing Glover’s knack for visual storytelling through his network of skilled collaborators.
The star-studded release, complete with appearances from Ariana Grande and 21 Savage among others, sets a high bar for the creative output we can anticipate from the tour. With the North American leg of the journey wrapping up on Oct. 3 in Chicago, Glover’s global reach will continue to touch fans internationally, with dates set across Europe, the U.K., Australia, and culminating in Perth, Australia on Feb. 11, 2025. It remains to be seen whether this tour marks the beginning of a new era for Glover, or if fans will once again be left clamoring for more after another unforeseeable hiatus, but one thing is certain—Childish Gambino's resurgence has been met with palpable excitement.
