In what's being cracked down as a harsh blow to contraband smuggling in the Ventura County Jail, Maceo Holmes, 52, and his son Aaron Holmes, 29, both of Oxnard, have been nabbed for plotting to sneak illegal drugs behind bars. The duo was caught thanks to sharp detective work by the Detention Services Classification Unit and the Ventura County Fentanyl and Overdose Crimes Units (VC FOCUS), as per a statement obtained by the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office.

This sting unfolded on May 7, when the investigators, who had been probing narcotics smuggling into the jail, unraveled the scheme involving the Holmes pairing, Maceo allegedly conspired to get the narcotics to his son Aaron, who was already in the slammer; however, prison officials foiled the plan before the handoff could occur. The bust was a result of the tireless efforts by the Todd Road Jail Classification Unit which is dedicated to root out the flow of illegal drugs into their facilities.

After Maceo was picked up in Oxnard, he got booked for counts of bringing/sending drugs into a jail facility and conspiracy to commit a crime, the department disclosed. Aaron, already an inmate for other charges, faced a supplemental booking on similar counts on May 9

As reported by the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, this arrest highlights the relentless pursuit of jail security and safety. The Classification Unit is known for its thorough investigations of crimes within and connected to the detention facilities and executing risk assessments to maintain law and order in these institutions.

For anyone possessing information leading to additional arrests and complaints against those involved in such criminal activities, Ventura County Crime Stoppers has laid out an offer – a cash reward of up to $1,000. Tipsters can chime in, remain unnamed, without worry of having their calls recorded, as they dial 800-222-TIPS (8477).
