Michigan's cannabis community is smoldering with controversy as a Hazel Park-based producer, Flavor Galaxy, finds itself in regulatory hot water. According to a report by FOX 2, the Cannabis Regulatory Agency (CRA) hit the dispensary with an 18-count complaint for a slew of violations, including selling pre-rolls with misleading packaging and mishandling records. Investigators were particularly concerned with the "Amnesia Watermelon Freeze Hybrid" pre-rolls, which boasted "Premium Refined Cannabis Distillate" and "Cannabis Derived Terpenes" on their packaging—a claim unsupported by state records.

The CRA's crackdown went beyond mere labeling issues; an unannounced visit on February 7 revealed something far more concerning—to illegally modify pre-rolled joints after lab testing. According to a statement by the CRA, more than 1,000 units of Flavor Galaxy's infused joints were recalled after being tampered with post-testing. The agency's recall notice targeted joints sold between November 25, 2023, and May 6, 2024, at dispensaries scattered across Michigan.

The CRA's near-iron-clad case against Flavor Galaxy underscores an ongoing issue within the cannabis industry, where product integrity is paramount. FOX 2's report detailed inappropriate record-keeping, discarded vape cartridges unaccounted for, and the distribution of untested products to employees. The penalties looming over Flavor Galaxy range from suspension and revocation of its license to possible fines.

Jon Shina, President of Flavor Galaxy LLC, told WDET, "the allegations by CRA were 'unfounded' and 'are in no way related to the quality or content of our products. In an industry where credibility is of the essence, he claimed,...at no point has Flavor Galazy ever added any marijuana product or ingredient to any of our products after safety compliance testing or after they were in final form, and any suggestion otherwise is as bizarre as it is offensive." Despite such assertions, a list of affected products and detailed instructions for consumers have been published on the CRA website.

The community is urged to take action if they've come into contact with the questionable joints. The CRA wants consumers to either dispose of or return the tainted products and report any adverse reactions to the agency.
