A Houston man has been cuffed for allegedly gunning down his co-worker during a predawn ambush as the victim was about to head to work, authorities said. Kevin Brown, 25, was nabbed Thursday night for the murder of 50-year-old Fidencio Romero, who was killed in a hail of gunfire on May 1 in the 13300 block of Wimbledon Oaks Drive, as per the FOX 26 Houston report. Investigators say the fatal encounter was sparked by a workplace dispute between the two, who were employed at the same major company.
The Harris County Sheriff's Office said that Romero was sitting in his truck when he was ambushed, and approximately 13 shots were fired from an AK-47-type weapon. Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez praised his team for their diligent work that led to Brown's arrest after the early morning attack.
Details about the disagreement that reportedly led to the shooting have not been disclosed, but Gonzalez, in a post on X, said, "Investigators believe the suspect had a disagreement with the victim at work, before the shooting occurred," according to a Click2Houston report. In a previous statement, Gonzalez termed the killing “senseless,” noting that Romero was "just a hardworking man going to work."
