Houston has a rollercoaster of weather conditions in the upcoming days. According to the National Weather Service, today Houstonians might catch a glimpse of light rain showers early in the morning, followed by patchy fog clearing up to mostly sunny skies and a high hitting a sweltering 89 degrees. However, the South's signature breeze is blossoming into gusts that might peak at 20 mph tonight.

Wednesday promises to elevate temperatures even further, flirting with the 90-degree mark. The Southern winds are anticipated to barrel through at speeds of 10 to 15 mph, with gusts threatening to show up as high as 25 mph. As we saunter into Thursday, there's a hint of showers and thunderstorms post-lunchtime amidst partly sunny conditions and cool Southeast winds.

The Storm Prediction Center has painted a bullseye of severe thunderstorm risk right through northeastern Texas into the Ohio Valley come Wednesday. Brace yourselves for weather havoc as "Scattered to numerous severe thunderstorms appear likely Wednesday across from parts of the southern Plains into the mid-Mississippi, Ohio, and Tennessee Valleys. All severe hazards, including tornadoes, very large hail, and severe/damaging winds should occur. Some of the tornadoes may be strong.,"

Across the ArkLaTex into the Mid-Mississippi and Ohio Valleys, the atmosphere's stewing a potent mix of high dewpoints and steep mid-level lapse rates, which the experts say will whip up a volatile brew of severe weather potential. "With enhanced flow associated with the previously mentioned mid-level jet, effective bulk shear of 40-50+ kt will easily support organized severe thunderstorms, including the potential for numerous supercells and intense bowing line segments.," warns the Storm Prediction Center

The closer we inch to the weekend, Houstonians will notice the mercury sliding back into more comfortable territory with highs in the low to mid-80s, though the chance of rain lingers on Sunday and into the start of next week.
