A 51-year-old man, whose identity is yet to be confirmed, died in custody at the Snohomish County Jail, local authorities reported on Monday. Booked on a Friday for allegedly violating a protection order, his life came to a sudden end within the enclosures of the Everett facility by the following Monday afternoon. The Snohomish County Sheriff's Office said that the man had become unresponsive while being evaluated by jail staff. Efforts to save his life, including those by arriving Everett Fire Department personnel, unfortunately, failed to hastily revive him, resulting in his death.
Details surrounding the events that led up to the inmate's death remain scarce. As per KOMO News, the medical examiner is tasked with the investigation into the cause of death and the formal identification. Meanwhile, the Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit has taken up the mantle to conduct a comprehensive death investigation, as was reported by KIRO 7.
This is not the first death to cast a shadow over the jail this year. In a separate incident reported by the Herald Net, another inmate, Andrey Biruk, was found deceased days after his booking. Having been placed in the medical detox unit, it was revealed posthumously that he had multiple drugs, including methamphetamine, fentanyl, and cocaine, in his system. The cause of death was attributed to peritonitis. In two other incidents, inmates David Koeppen and Brendon Tesch also succumbed to fentanyl overdoses.
