A heartbreaking tragedy struck Palmdale Wednesday morning when a toddler was found unresponsive at Melville J. Courson Park and pronounced dead shortly after. According to CBS News Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department received a call about a child in medical distress just before 9 a.m. Despite efforts from first responders to resuscitate the boy with CPR, he was declared dead at Antelope Valley Hospital.

An ongoing investigation by the LASD Homicide Bureau has led to the park's closure. Meanwhile, KTLA reports that neighbors identified the nearly 2-year-old boy and expressed shock. Having spoken with Destiny Tibbs, a neighbor, the outlet reported she said authorities had a suspicion that something may have happened to the child at his home before his death.

In continuing coverage, the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner disclosed the toddler's name as Cameron Flores, as per ABC7 Eyewitness News. The exact cause of death remains under investigation. Eyewitnesses described a panic-stricken scene where the child's father apparently performed CPR in a car before first responders took over.
