A brazen shoplifting attempt at an Irvine Target store ended in a foot chase and an arrest last Friday, Irvine Police reported. The suspect, caught trying to wheel out a cart full of unpaid merchandise, threatened the loss prevention officers as they attempted to confront him, according to the Irvine Police Department's Facebook page.
The drama unfolded shortly after the individual exited the store, when police officers, summoned to the scene, spotted the would-be thief strolling nearby. Once the suspect caught sight of law enforcement, he bolted, setting off a brief sprint. Eventually, officers managed to apprehend and detain him, the department posted on social media.
Preliminary investigations revealed a pattern of behavior; the suspect had been a repeat offender with a history of pilfering from the same Target location.
