LAPD Officers Fatally Shoot Knife-Wielding Suspect in South Los Angeles, Investigation Underway

A man wielding a knife was fatally shot by Los Angeles Police Department officers in South Los Angeles, triggering an investigation by both the LAPD and the District Attorney's Office, officials said. The incident unfolded near the intersection of Main and Colden Avenues around 6:40 p.m. Sunday, after officers responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon, as per the LAPD's X account.

Confronted by the armed individual, the officers stepped out of their patrol vehicle and commanded him to drop his weapon. According to KABC, the man in his 30s ignored the officers' directives and instead, advanced towards them with the knife, prompting the officers to shoot. The suspect, whose identity was withheld, was later pronounced dead after being transported to the hospital by the Los Angeles Fire Department.

No officers or civilians sustained injuries during the encounter, though the event caused significant traffic disruptions in the area of Colden Street, extending from Main to Spring Streets. LAPD Officer Tony Im informed the public to avoid the region while the investigations took place.

The man, after being hit by the gunfire, was detained and subsequently died from his injuries at a local hospital as reported by NBC Los Angeles. "The officers immediately exited their patrol vehicle and gave the suspect commands. The armed suspect advanced toward the officers and an officer involved shooting occurred," stated the LAPD Southeast Division in an X post.
