In a brazen daytime robbery attempt at a Loma Linda eatery, a local man tried but failed to snatch a watch right off the wrist of an unsuspecting diner last Friday. The suspect, identified as 52-year-old Edward James II Elsasser, didn't manage to make off with the timepiece before being chased down by deputies and slapped with felony charges.
According to details released by the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department, the hungry culprit approached the victim around 12:33 p.m. on the 24000 block of Redlands Boulevard and demanded their property. After being refused, Elsasser tried to force the watch from the victim's wrist. "Elsasser was unsuccesful in stealing the wrist watch and fled from the location on foot," stated the department's report.
Alert deputies assigned to the case, Chavez and Alfaro, responded quickly, locating Elsasser in the nearby area. Following a prompt arrest, Elsasser was booked into the Central Detention Center where he remains in lieu of $500,000 bail.
This attempted heist landed Elsasser with some serious legal trouble. He was charged with PC 664/211- Attempted Robbery, according to the Sheriff-Coroner's department's account. Community members with additional information on this case or Elsasser's past shenanigans are encouraged to contact Central Station or anonymously whisper tips to the We-tip Hotline or their website at www.wetip.com.
