In a wave of relief sweeping across Los Angeles, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department has confirmed that Prescela Sujaei Mondragon, a 16-year-old previously reported as critically missing, has been located and is now safe. The announcement closes a distressing chapter for the community that had been on high alert since the girl's disappearance was first made public.
Mondragon, detailed as a Hispanic female teenager with brown eyes and shoulder-length dark hair, had vanished on May 9, after she was last seen at around noon on the 1100 block of N. Alma Avenue. Fears for her safety were particularly heightened following reports that she had made a suicidal statement prior to her disappearance. The Sheriff's Information Bureau, in a statement, thanked "the public, the media, Aero Bureau, and deputy personnel for their tireless efforts in the search for Prescela."
The initial call for public assistance was urgent, with local authorities and the teenager's family reaching out amid concerns for her well-being, prompting widespread media coverage and community engagement. She was described as standing 5’04” tall and weighing 135lbs, last seen adorned in a grey hooded sweater, and blue jeans.
Community members wasted no time in responding to the call for aid, sharing information and keeping an eye out for the youth. Tips and leads were encouraged to be submitted anonymously through Crime Stoppers, or directly to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's East LA Station, in a concerted effort to ensure the safe return of the teenager.
The successful resolution of Mondragon's case underscores the critical role that public involvement plays in cases of missing juveniles. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, through various platforms and media alerts, has consistently kept the public in the loop on such incidents, advocating for community-driven vigilance and action.
