Man on Electric Scooter Fatally Struck by Vehicle in Long Beach, Police Seeking WitnessesSource: Facebook / Long Beach Police Department (CA)

A tragic accident in Long Beach has claimed the life of a man after a collision involving a vehicle and an electric scooter. The Long Beach Police Department has detailed the incident in a press release, announcing that their Collision Investigation detectives are currently investigating the lethal event that took place on the morning of May 4.

Police responded to the scene at Ximeno Avenue and Shaw Street at around 6:27 a.m., after receiving reports of an injury traffic collision. The unnamed male victim, who had been operating the electric scooter, was found severely injured and was promptly attended to by officers who attempted to administrate lifesaving measures. He was quickly transported to a local hospital by the Long Beach Fire Department, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.

According to the initial findings, the accident occurred when a female adult, driving a Ford C-Max southbound on Ximeno Avenue, struck the man on the scooter. Investigators believe the scooter rider may have failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection. The driver of the Ford C-Max stayed at the scene and cooperated with the authorities. Investigators have found no evidence thus far to suggest that speed, distracted driving, or impaired driving were factors in this tragedy.

The scooter rider's identity has been withheld, pending the notification of next of kin by the Los Angeles County Department of the Medical Examiner. In a bid to gather further information on the collision, Long Beach officials are appealing for witnesses to come forward. Persons who might have any details about the accident are encouraged to reach out to Collision Investigation Detectives David Dougherty or Shawn Loughlin by calling 562-570-7355.
