A naked man was hit by a car after dashing into bustling Ladera Heights traffic and was later said to be in stable condition at a local hospital; authorities reported he experienced a possible mental-health crisis. ABC7 captured footage showing the man evading one vehicle before being struck by another around 9:30 a.m. on Thursday at the intersection of Slauson and Edgemar Avenues. Witness Gerardo Garcia, who was working nearby, first questioned the surreal scene unfolding before him remarking, "Me and my buddy were just like 'What? What's going on? Are we being pranked?' And he just ran cross us and a lady in a car just hits him," in a video recounted to ABC7.

The man, after being hit, managed to stand up and was later seen lying down on the street again before deputies arrived; it is uncertain if a second vehicle hit him during this lapse. According to the ABC7 report, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said the injured man's family had called for help due to his mental distress and self-inflicted wounds. Jerry Garcia, another witness, described the individual as jumping from the roof of a building into traffic and told FOX 11, "It was just crazy, a naked man jumping out of the bush from the roof and onto the street."

The Los Angeles Police Department indicated that the man, who displayed signs of blood on his body and confusion after being struck, went on to tackle an officer who arrived on scene. Garcia, recalling the man's disoriented state to FOX 11, said, "Just very confused; I don’t know what he was on or what was going on through his head, but yeah, very confused, like kind of out of it." With incidents involving drugs or mental health issues a reoccurring concern on the roads, the importance of driver awareness has been highlighted.

In the aftermath of the chaotic event, which underscored the unpredictable nature of city streets, Garcia advises drivers to "Stay on your toes while driving; make sure you don’t run over anybody. I see a lot of crazy things when I’m driving," reflecting a need for heightened caution in urban traffic, with the unpredictability of these scenarios posing hazards both for those experiencing crises and the unsuspecting public encountering them.
