Jeremy Thompkins, a former basketball coach at Farmington High School, has been convicted of sexually assaulting two teenage students, according to multiple reports. Thompkins, 43, faced a jury last week over allegations that he assaulted a 15-year-old from Farmington Hills and a 16-year-old from Oak Park at his Detroit home.
The attacks occurred between August and October of 2023, with Thompkins arrested in October and subsequently charged with one count of second-degree and one count of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct. As reported by ClickOnDetroit, second and fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct charges involve unwanted sexual contact, with the second-degree charge indicating more forceful abuse.
Farmington High School had fired Thompkins and several other coaches in October after allegations surfaced, and a concerned parent reported to school administrators that various team members had visited Thompkins’ house. WXYZ revealed that this was not Thompkins' first brush with the law. Wayne County court records show Thompkins was charged with three counts of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct (force or coercion) back in 2008 involving another 17-year-old boy.
In court, one of the victims recounted a chilling experience at Thompkins' Detroit home, stating, "I’m sitting there scared. I didn’t know what to do. I'm just sitting there scared, hoping I could make it home," as told to FOX 2 Detroit. He described how a purported stretching session turned into an unwanted massage, leading to sexual assault. Thompkins then drove the boy home, where the terrified teen informed his mother of the ordeal, stating, "I started tearing up a little bit, and I gave her a hug and told her what happened,"
Court proceedings will resume Wednesday morning.
