A Pasadena man, previously on parole for assault with a deadly weapon, was nabbed after carjacking a woman in a Camarillo In-N-Out Burger parking lot, as per officials. The Ventura County Sheriff's Office reports that Ismael Arellano, 28, approached the woman on May 17, feigning a need to use her cellphone before forcefully taking her vehicle keys and fleeing in her car.
In a turn of events, Arellano surrendered to the Los Angeles Police Department, where his parole was subsequently revoked. He was initially arrested for a parole violation, and following a search of the stolen vehicle, authorities uncovered evidence linking him to the carjacking, according to a news release from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office.
The Pasadena man's stint on the run ended when he turned himself in downtown L.A., not far from the LAPD, and was taken into custody. Arellano is currently facing charges that include felony carjacking, possession of stolen property, and unlawful taking of a vehicle. KTLA reports that his bail has been set at $200,000.
Authorities scheduled his next court appearance for June 5. Arellano remains at the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office pre-trial detention facility, as stated in a report by FOX LA. The coordinated efforts of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, the L.A. Police Department, and the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation Division of Adult Parole were credited for the swift apprehension and case resolution.
Ventura County authorities are praising a collaborative effort between multiple agencies that led to Arellano’s arrest, and are encouraging the public to continue assisting in similar matters. They've highlighted that such teamwork is essential for bringing suspects to justice and providing closure to victims.
