Law enforcement in Philadelphia is actively searching for 32-year-old Nafiysh Knox-Schenck, who made a daring escape from police custody in the East Germantown area of the city, authorities confirmed. Authorities reported to NBC Philadelphia that Knox-Schenck was initially detained after a traffic stop around 10 a.m. on the unit block of West Collum Street yesterday.
Knox-Schenck, who had an existing warrant for firearms violations, was found with a gun in his vehicle during the stop, police said. However, after he was handcuffed and seated in a patrol car, an unidentified individual opened the door allowing him to flee on foot, heading eastbound on Collum Street. Despite the officers' immediate pursuit, Knox-Schenck managed to evade capture.
"Officers followed in pursuit but were unable to apprehend him," as NBC Philadelphia stated. The circumstances surrounding, how the patrol car door was opened remain unclear, the authorities have admitted.
Police are cautioning the public not to approach the suspect, who is considered dangerous due to the firearm violation. “Anyone with information on the suspect's whereabouts is urged to call 9-1-1 immediately,” said 6ABC. This case has left the local community on high alert as the search for Knox-Schenck continues into its second day.
