Philly drivers, listen up: the days of parking your excessively tinted ride without consequence are slipping away. A new city ordinance, signed into effect on April 18, now slaps a $100 fine on any car – moving or parked – that sports window tint blocking more than 30% of the light. This update, which includes parked vehicles in its sweep, was reported on the official City of Philadelphia website and takes effect starting July 1.
According to City of Philadelphia regulations, any tint that allows less than 70% light to pass through is considered to be in violation. The Philadelphia Parking Authority (PPA) is gearing up to rigorously enforce this new rule, although Philly cops can still to choose to issue tickets. So whether you're zipping down Broad Street or just parked at the curb, your tinted windows could cost you.
Once the summer rolls in, any vehicle "operating in Philadelphia may be subject to this enforcement," as per the City's guidelines.
