
Flames ripped through a vacant two-story home on Monterey Street in San Antonio yesterday morning, prompting a swift response from the local fire department. Sources from the San Antonio Fire Department (SAFD) stated they received a call around 10 a.m. about a blaze near West Commerce Street, causing them to spring into action.
The firefighters faced treacherous conditions, the structure under renovation riddled with hazards including holes in the flooring and missing sections, complicating their battle against the flames and although the fire was quickly subdued by the tireless firefighters, nobody was injured.
As the smoke cleared, the SAFD initiated an investigation to unearth the cause of the fire, planning to glean insights from neighborhood residents who might have witnessed anything suspicious. One local, speaking to KENS 5, recalled seeing squatters inhabiting the now-charred residence previously.
SAFD officials underscored the absence of electricity in the building, precluding it as a source of the ignition, yet the monetary extent of the damage wreaked by the flames remains undetermined as per the battalion chief, despite significant damage, was quoted the home still stands salvageable a testament to the protective embrace of the vigilant fire crew.
