Gunfire erupted at a San Antonio McDonald's drive-thru when a disgruntled customer, Samanda Anthony, unleashed a hail of bullets over an order dispute, leading to her arrest. This disturbing incident took place in December 2023 at the fast food chain's outlet located at 1330 South Laredo Street and involved at least eight shots fired, causing terror among the staff who were forced to take cover.
Reports from KENS 5, backed by video evidence, paint a harrowing picture as workers describe dodging bullets and hiding behind equipment to avoid being hit, Anthony, who is 32, reportedly returned to McDonald's approximately 30 minutes after initially receiving her order, boiling over with rage claiming she hadn't received her biscuits and hash browns which in reality, surveillance footage confirmed, she was handed, her actions culminated in a violent expression of dissatisfaction that went far beyond any reasonable response to an alleged service failure.
Emotions ran high after Anthony's boyfriend arrived on the scene, further challenging McDonald's employees over the matter, and the situation escalated when Anthony, moving between the two drive-thru windows, began banging on them. The alarming standoff, which included a challenge to fight outside, ended with the devastating sound of gunfire, after which an employee told KENS 5, "I was crying, I was scared, I was having a panic attack."
The drive-thru window bore the scars of the encounter, left with what appeared to be large bullet holes, as shown in images released after the police probe, according to FOX San Antonio, following the incident, Anthony managed to flee the scene in her gold 2011 Cadillac SUV but was later identified thanks to video surveillance which captured a clear shot of her vehicle's license plate and her distinctive tattoos.
Anthony is now facing charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and is being held on a $75,000 bond. The incident highlights a sobering reality of how quickly situations can escalate over seemingly trivial matters and the ever-present threat of gun violence in everyday spaces.
