A manhunt through Southern California ended this weekend with the arrest of a 29-year-old San Diego resident, Lorenzo Isaiah Haynes, after a harrowing pursuit spanning multiple counties. San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department confirmed Haynes's apprehension facing a slew of serious charges, including kidnapping, false imprisonment, rape, human trafficking, and evading police.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department dispatch received a distress call from the victim on the evening of May 25th, saying that she was hiding from Haynes, who had allegedly held her captive for two weeks. In response, deputies located Haynes' vehicle leading to a chase after attempting a traffic stop near Chino, CA. The suspect initially managed to shake off the pursuit, inadvertently causing a traffic collision involving a deputy and two civilians during the chase, resulting in injuries later addressed with the victims released from the hospital.
Haynes's bid for escape continued through Riverside County and ended in San Diego County, where his vehicle was finally disabled. Defiant to the end, Haynes then took off on foot but was ultimately detained by local law enforcement. With the traumatic ordeal over, Haynes is now being held at West Valley Detention Center as the authorities piece together the narrative of the alleged kidnapping and assaults.
The Sheriff's Department has issued a plea for any additional information related to the incident, urging anyone with any knowledge to step forward. Calls can be made to the Chino Hills Police Department at (909) 364-2000, or those wishing to remain anonymous can contact the We-Tip Hotline at 1-800-78CRIME (27463), with assurance given that the identities of those contributing to the case will be kept confidential. Senior law enforcement officials Sergeant Jesse Doner and Sergeant Bryan Sprague are overseeing the investigation, as reported by the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department.
