Seattle residents might want to savor the sunlight today as clouds are set to roll in, bringing rain and potentially dreary weather conditions for the rest of the week. According to the National Weather Service in Seattle, the forecast for May 20th featured mostly sunny skies with a high near 66 degrees. However, things are expected to quickly change as there's a 20 percent chance of rain starting after 4 a.m. on Tuesday.
The weather shift will bring cooler temperatures and increased winds, with new precipitation amounts between a quarter and half an inch possible. "Tuesday rain," the National Weather Service Seattle report reads, "High near 55. South wind 7 to 10 mph." Locals should prepare to grab their umbrellas as the chance of precipitation is pegged at 100 percent. Tuesday night will not bring much respite either, with showers likely and a continuing south-southwest wind around 10 mph.
The Seattle weather rollercoaster doesn't stop midweek, either. The NWS Seattle predicts a 50 percent chance of showers, mainly before 11 a.m. on Wednesday, but partly sunny conditions and a high near 59 should offer a brief break from the wet weather. Wednesday evening is expected to be partly cloudy, with a low of around 48 degrees.
Looking further into the week, the forecast suggests that Seattleites may need to intermittently continue to carry their rain gear. "Thursday partly sunny, with a high near 65," the National Weather Service report indicates, just before hinting at a slight chance of showers later that night. The showers could continue into Friday, with mostly cloudy conditions and a high near 61 degrees forecasted. The weekend seems to remain unsettled with a chance of showers punctuated by partly sunny spells.
