San Antonio streets are marginally safer as three men face charges in a vehicle theft ring scheme, officials said. The accused – Jesus Gonzales, 22, Adrian Flores, 19, and Andres Escobar, 22 – were busted after authorities linked them to the disappearance of at least 15 high-end trucks this year, with plans to smuggle them over the Mexican border.

In this dragnet spanning several months, San Antonio Police nabbed Gonzales hiding after a hot pursuit on April 22, as KENS 5 reported. An elusive white Ford F150, involved in a robbery and later found abandoned, became a crucial piece of evidence, leading to the trio’s downfall. A statement from Sgt. Washington Moscoso declared, "Someone doesn’t just wake up one day and steal 8 vehicles in a night." Moscoso's comments highlighted the calculated nature of the crimes.

The task force followed a digital trail back to Flores and Escobar, with cell phone data tripping them up, according to FOX San Antonio. A documented connection to an earlier theft provided the first solid link connecting Gonzalez and Flores. A San Antonio Police Officer’s Chevrolet Camaro, replete with his city-issued ballistic vest, was snatched in February. Noteworthy was a photo from the same day featuring Gonzalez brazenly sporting the vest.

Efforts culminated with SAPD officers, alongside the Bexar County Sheriff's Office and other agencies, raiding homes on Madrid and Chihuahua Street – leading to arrests and startling discoveries. "We found evidence of narcotics and we found 14 firearms at the location [on Madrid]," Sgt. Moscoso said. Even a home security video caught Gonzales donning an officer’s ballistic vest and Escobar with a shotgun case, planting them firmly at the scene of the crime.

The recovered stolen vehicles range from a black 2023 Chevrolet Camaro to multiple versions of the Ford F150, according to KENS 5. The arrest marks a significant dent in local vehicle theft, but police hint at a larger picture yet to unfurl. Sgt. Moscoso warned, "We are still anticipating more arrests from this," signaling a serious crackdown on car theft rings.
