Two women were busted by deputies after they allegedly pilfered more than $1,000 worth of goods from a JCPenney store in Victorville, authorities said. The alleged shoplifters, identified as 37-year-old Candise Joy Powers of Victorville and 34-year-old Whitney Connie Hart of Apple Valley, reportedly stuffed a cart with merchandise at the store located on the 14300 block of Bear Valley Road and walked out without paying, the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department reported.

Deputy J. Greterman was quick on the scene following a call placed on Saturday, May 25, 2024, around 8:18 p.m., after the duo was spotted loading the stolen items into a 2012 Chevrolet, subsequently fleeing the scene. A traffic stop eventually led to the discovery of the stolen merchandise, in plain view in the vehicle. According to the Sheriff-Coroner Department's report, Powers, and Hart, were detained and the recovered goods amounted to over $1,000 in value.

The pair was slapped with charges for P.C. 487(A) - Grand Theft, and P.C. 182(A)(1) - Conspiracy to Commit a Crime and were booked at High Desert Detention Center in Adelanto.
