The hunt is on for a 38-year-old man accused of assaulting an off-duty police officer, and authorities are offering a hefty sum for help in capturing him. Arthur Jones, whose last known address was in the 600 block of W. Harold Street, Philadelphia, is wanted on charges of aggravated assault, robbery, and illegal firearm possession, the U.S. Marshals Service said Monday.
Authorities have described Jones as standing 5 feet, 6 inches tall and weighing about 160 pounds. He has black hair, brown eyes, and sports a tattoo of dice on his left forearm. The U.S. Marshals Service Eastern Pennsylvania Violent Crime Fugitive Task Force, alongside Philadelphia Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 5, are offering a $5,000 reward – $2,500 each, for information that leads directly to Jones' arrest. This reward will be handed out right upon arrest, not upon conviction, which is not the usual protocol.
"A fugitive who has been charged with assaulting a law enforcement officer becomes a priority case for this task force. We are hoping the public can provide information which will expedite bringing a dangerous individual to justice," Supervisory Deputy U.S. Marshal Robert Clark said in a press release. The assault and the corresponding warrant occurred on May 14, drawing immediate attention from law enforcement.
Members of the public with any information about Jones' whereabouts are encouraged to contact the U.S. Marshals Philadelphia Tipline at 1-866-865-TIPS (8477) or via the USMS Web Tip service.
