Westbound I-10 Shut Down in Phoenix for Paving, Bridge Work May 3-6Source: Facebook/Arizona Department of Transportation

The Arizona Department of Transportation has issued a warning for those traveling through the Valley this weekend. Westbound I-10 is going to be a no-go zone from the evening of May 3 to the early hours of May 6. According to an announcement on the ADOT website, the interstate shutdown is for necessary paving and bridge work. This stretch of I-10 will be completely closed between Loop 202 Santan/South Mountain Freeway and US 60.

ADOT is urging motorists to not only expect delays but also to utilize the detour routes they've outlined. To bypass the closures, drivers can use eastbound Loop 202 Santan Freeway to northbound Loop 101 Price Freeway and then catch the westbound US 60 or take the westbound Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway to reconnect with I-10. It's suggested that those heading to the West Valley should, instead, circle by using Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway west to 59th Avenue to get back on track.

Several ramps are also getting the axe during this period. ADOT's advisory includes closures of the westbound I-10 on-ramps at Wild Horse Pass Boulevard/Sundust Road, Chandler Boulevard, Ray, Warner, and Elliot roads, in addition to both the westbound Loop 202 Santan Freeway and the eastbound Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway ramps to westbound I-10.
