A repeat offender was cuffed earlier this week after allegedly trying to kidnap children in a Los Angeles park. Yara Vanessa Pineda, 27, stands accused of the crime, which unfolded at Seoul International Park in Koreatown, KTLA reports.
Pineda was reportedly seen attempting to physically take several children and had an altercation with their parents. One boy, Anwar, told KTLA, "There was a crazy lady running around and she was picking up little kids and the kids were running from her." Anwar recounted that Pineda tried to also grab his sister and pushed her to the ground. Parents at the park were vigilant and dialed 911 to report the suspect as they kept an eye out for the safety of their children.
Before her apprehension on May 28, an LAPD helicopter spotted Pineda trying to flee the park, as per the account of Los Angeles authorities. Upon officers' arrival, they had to use a taser to subdue and arrest her. Pineda was previously taken into custody after a similar episode at a Target store in Westlake District, where she is said to have grabbed and carried a child outside the establishment, only letting go after a confrontation by the child's parents. Details concerning her previous release from jail remain unclear, according to ABC7.
The latest incident has led to Yara Pineda being charged with felony kidnapping and she is currently being held without bail. Authorities continue to investigate and have called upon the public to provide any information that might assist their ongoing investigation. Community members with pertinent details can reach out to the LAPD or, to remain anonymous, contact L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers, FOX LA states.
