Indianapolis has seen an arrest nearly eight months after a tragic shooting at a house party claimed the life of a 15-year-old boy. Edwin Simon-Osorio was shot dead following an altercation that spiraled out of control during a Halloween celebration. Now, 17-year-old Alan Peregrino faces murder charges, as reported by IndyStar.

The incident, which took place on October 21, 2023, began with a gathering that unexpectedly grew into a large and unmanageable event. As the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded to the emergency on North Emerson Avenue, they discovered Simon-Osorio with a fatal gunshot injury, in, a vehicle. According to witnesses, Peregrino, who was 16 years old at the time, had been behaving erratically, brandishing two guns at the party which led to a fatal interaction, as detailed by FOX59 News.

Peregrino's arrest came after a series of investigations where partygoers reported he was intoxicated and instigating confrontations. "Na, na. Imma start shooting," Peregrino allegedly said after ignoring Simon-Osorio's pleas to put the guns away, this was noted in court documents. Shortly after the shooting, Peregrino was also implicated in a nearby carjacking incident, which eventually led to his capture. "Our family is very thankful that justice was made," Ana Osorio, the sister of Simon-Osorio, told IndyStar in a statement.

Forensic teams later matched the bullet casings found at the scene to a 9mm Glock 17, linked to Peregrino. Witnesses identified Peregrino in a photo array, and videos from the scene corroborated the accounts of his dangerous behavior, as recounted by WRTV. Beyond the murder charge, Peregrino is accused of multiple offenses including kidnapping while hijacking a vehicle, armed robbery, criminal recklessness, pointing a firearm at another, unlawful carrying of a handgun, and dangerous possession of a firearm by a minor.

Peregrino's legal proceedings are now in motion, with a pretrial conference set for June 18. The community awaits answers and closure as the justice system grapples with the enormity of these events that stem from a Halloween party turned horrifically violent.
