An early morning shooting on Indianapolis's near northwest side left a young man dead on Father's Day, adding to the ever-grim tally of firearm fatalities in the city. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) officers responded to the scene after receiving reports of a person down on the 2900 block of North Warman Avenue, as identified by WRTV.
The victim, discovered with injuries from a gunshot, was pronounced deceased outside a residence. He was later identified by the Marion County Coroner's Office as 20-year-old Zephiniah Bolden, reported CBS4 Indy. No suspect is in custody at this time, and detectives are actively pursuing leads in the investigation.
As the community grapples with loss, an IMPD spokesperson lamented the timing of the tragedy. "It's unfortunate, it's Father's Day," the spokesperson said, in an emotion-laden statement captured by WTHR. The impact of the violence on a day that typifies family unity and celebration casts a shadow over a community already struggling to contend with a surge in gun violence.
IMPD is seeking assistance from the public, urging anyone with information to come forward and contact the homicide office or Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana. Tips leading to a felony arrest may be rewarded with up to $1,000 cash. The detective assigned to the case is Noe Reyes, who can be reached through his email [email protected], or by phone along with anonymous tips at (317) 327-3475, detailed CBS4 Indy. Additionally, information can be submitted via the Crime Stoppers website at www.CrimeTips.org or the P3Tips mobile app.
