
Early Thursday morning, Glendale residents faced a harrowing scene as police and SWAT teams responded to an emergency at an apartment building on Vassar Street. A suspect, reportedly wielding a bat and later arming himself with a knife, had barricaded himself after an alleged assault, causing authorities to evacuate the area.
The incident began around 1 a.m. when an assault was reported in the 1900 block of Vassar Street. A man assaulted another person with a baseball bat, prompting a police response, CBS News Los Angeles reported.
According to the ABC7 coverage, upon the arrival of Glendale Police Department, the suspect retreated into an apartment and threatened to start a fire.
Efforts to de-escalate the situation included negotiations with the suspect by a dedicated team, who worked tirelessly throughout the standoff. Following hours of communication, the situation concluded with the arrest of the suspect shortly after 8:30 a.m., as detailed by authorities to ABC7.
Meanwhile, the victim of the initial assault has been receiving medical treatment, their condition was not detailed in the reports. The suspect's identity has yet to be released pending further investigation. Evacuated residents, who had faced the uncertainty of a threat to their homes, were allowed to return following the resolution of the standoff, the police informed CBS News Los Angeles.
