In the pre-dawn hours of March 12, a Bloomington residence on Valley Boulevard became the ominous setting for a harrowing crime, where two individuals were rudely awakened and thrust into a scenario resembling a Hollywood thriller—except the fear and the stakes were all too real. Per reports, at around 3:00 a.m., an armed trio comprising Marcos Guerrero, 48, Elijah Gafare, 35, and Cynthia Leal, 38, allegedly burst into the victims' home. The suspects, wielding the decisive authority of firearms, proceeded to not only rob but to also impose their violent will upon the residents, adding physical assault to their heinous activities.
Details on the incident released by San Bernardino County authorities describe a grim scene: one victim was mercilessly pistol-whipped; the other was held captive while being forced to watch the brutal spectacle. The invaders, driven by their insatiable greed or perhaps desperation, absconded with an approximately $12,500 pot, a hard drive containing potentially incriminating video evidence, and the added insult of the victim's vehicle. After managing to somehow call for help, victim 1 was quickly transported to local medical facilities in urgent need of repair.
The case, which has undoubtedly sent ripples of dread through the local community, then unfolded over the subsequent weeks as law enforcement, led by Deputy Peraza and Detective Pederson of the Fontana Sheriff's Station, launched an extensive hunt for the suspects. Their tenacity appeared to have paid off when, on May 30, a controlled storm of police activity saw to the execution of two meticulously timed search warrants. These efforts culminated in the arrests of Guerrero and Leal in Glendora and Gafare in West Covina, as reported by the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department.
The trio, believed to unquestionably be responsible for the terror inflicted upon their victims, were booked on allegations that include residential robbery, assault with a firearm, and conspiracy to commit a felony. Following their arrests, the suspects were booked into West Valley Detention Center without further incident, promptly placing them beyond the ability to further menace society at large.
