A 27-year-old man from Brownsville has been sentenced to just over four and a half years in prison after being convicted for his role in a meth trafficking operation. Juan Adame II, had previously entered a guilty plea on March 11, 2022, for importing methamphetamine into the United States.

According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, Chief U.S. District Judge Randy Crane mandated Adame to serve a 57-month prison term, which will be immediately followed by a period of supervised release lasting three years. In a statement, the court emphasized that traffickers could not to successfully operate without individuals like Adame who willingly transport these illicit substances.

Adame's arrest stemmed from an incident on April 8, 2021, when he was stopped at the Progresso Port of Entry. Although he claimed there were no illegal substances in his car, a secondary inspection led by a canine unit resulted in the discovery of 25 bricks of meth. The drugs were cleverly concealed within the vehicle's wheel wells.

The drugs confiscated weighed approximately 24 kilograms and were estimated to have a street value of around $60,000. Further into the investigation, Adame admitted to the smuggling charges, conceding that he knew he was transporting narcotics and had done so on several previous occasions. He will now remain in custody until he is transferred to a federal prison, details of which are to be determined.
