The U.S. Coast Guard is conducting a search for a missing man and his teenage son after they failed to return from a early morning shrimping trip near Magnolia Beach in Port Lavaca. Reports from FOX 26 Houston indicate the 35-year-old father and his 15-year-old son set out at 5 a.m. Saturday and were expected back by 10:30 a.m.
The man's wife contacted authorities around 11:20 a.m. to report the pair was overdue. Details provided by KHOU describe the father as Latino, about six feet tall, and weighing between 160 and 180 pounds. Both the man and his son were likely wearing green waders when they departed on their shrimp boat named "My Possum".
A capsized vessel matching the description of the "My Possum" was found in the Matagorda Ship Channel off Magnolia Beach by a Calhoun County fire boat crew, as reported by officials. The urgent situation has led to an inter-agency effort involving units from Coast Guard Sector Corpus Christi, Coast Guard Air Station Corpus Christi, Texas Parks & Wildlife Department, and Texas Department of Public Safety.
In the ongoing search for an missing father and son, watchstanders have issued an urgent marine information broadcast and directed the launch of a Coast Guard MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Air Station Corpus Christi, along with a 29-foot Response Boat-Small from the Coast Guard Station Port O’Connor. People with knowledge relevant to the search are encouraged to reach out to Sector Corpus Christi at 361-939-0450.
