Dallas residents are bracing for a stormy week ahead, with the National Weather Service predicting a mix of severe weather conditions enveloping the region. Today, locals can expect a 30 percent chance of thunderstorms kicking off in the afternoon, with temperature highs lingering near a balmy 90 degrees. The risk of showers and thunderstorms carries into the night, creating a 40 percent likelihood of precipitation, as gusts might hit as high as 20 mph, reports the National Weather Service.
Heading into Monday, the forecast suggests a continuation of the stormy pattern, with a 40 percent chance of thunderstorms and winds potentially roaring up to 25 mph. By Tuesday, the tempestuous weather subsides slightly, paving the way for partly sunny skies and highs pushing a sweltering 92 degrees. As per usual, the evening promises to deliver a mild respite with the mercury dipping to about 75 degrees, and similar conditions are expected to roll through Wednesday, the weather service explained.
Beyond the immediate forecast, the outlook takes a hazardous turn. "Thunderstorm chances continue today, especially in the afternoon and evening," according to a statement from the Hazardous Weather Outlook. "Some storms may be strong or severe with damaging winds and hail as the main threat." Residents are advised that another complex of storms could swoop into North Texas late into Monday night, possibly ushering in a damaging wind threat. Low storm chances will linger through the week with additional thunderstorms predicted late Thursday courtesy of a weak cold front. Spotter activation, however, is not expected at this time.
This surge in storm activity arrives alongside the extension of flood warnings for multiple rivers around Texas, including the Trinity River at Dallas. These waterways have breached their banks, spurring minor flooding in agricultural lands and pushing low-water crossings to the verge of inundation. The Trinity River, having reached a crest of 31.4 feet Saturday evening, is expected to recede below flood stage by late tonight. With rivers surging and the possibility of severe weather conditions looming large, the community is urged to exercise caution, especially when driving through prone to flooding areas or while near riverbanks.
