In Detroit, a ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the opening of The Brooke on Bagley, a $23 million mixed-use housing development. The project is a notable addition to Detroit's southwest quarter, near the recently revived Michigan Central Station. CBS Detroit reports that the development includes 78 apartments and boasts over 2,100 square feet of retail space at 2420 Bagley.

Mayor Mike Duggan, accompanied by city leaders, celebrated the project's completion, which is expected to provide "much-needed affordable housing" to the neighborhood. According to the City of Detroit's official website, 16 of the newly unveiled apartments will serve residents at 80 percent of the area's median income. This inclusion of affordable units reflects a concerted effort to ensure long-time Detroit residents can remain in the face of ongoing neighborhood transformation.

The Brooke on Bagley emerged from an alliance between the city and Woodborn Partners, a Detroit-based Minority Business Enterprise led by Clifford Brown. Gensler Detroit steered the aesthetic direction of the project, offering a range of residential options that include 38 one-bedroom, three two-bedroom, and 37 studio apartments. Among the amenities touted are a fitness center, a dog park, and 24-hour emergency maintenance, as highlighted by CBS News Detroit.

Mixing income brackets within the same building is a strategic decision. The presence of retail space and proximity to landmarks like the Southwest Greenway and Michigan Central Station aims to enrich the resident experience. "Just a few days ago, we celebrated the reopening of Michigan Central Station and today we celebrate the opening of this beautiful new mixed use, mixed income building just a few steps away", Mayor Duggan stated, as per the City of Detroit.

Studio apartments start at $1,344 a month, with one-bedroom units priced from $1,366 and two-bedroom options at $2,200 monthly. The strategic location of these residences is expected to offer convenient access to Mexicantown, Corktown, and various recreational spaces, affording residents "city living at its best."

The development's funding framework includes an array of public-private partnerships, such as the Strategic Neighborhood Fund and Ebiara Fund, aimed at fostering equitable development. Capital Impact Partners, the Michigan Strategic Fund, the Detroit Economic Growth Corp., and several others were instrumental in the financial actualization of The Brooke on Bagleys, with an overarching goal to make a lasting positive impact on the Detroit community.
