
An elderly woman was saved from a harrowing situation at the Wilmington Amtrak Station Sunday evening after she fell and found herself trapped under a train car, police said. The incident occurred around 6:50 p.m. on East Front Street, as reported by FOX 29. The Wilmington Fire Department, supported by New Castle County EMS and St. Francis Hospital EMS, promptly arrived at the scene and began rescue operations.
Firefighters worked to extricate the woman using specialized equipment, according to a statement obtained by 6ABC. Despite the perilous circumstances, the woman maintained consciousness and, after fifteen minutes of concerted effort by the emergency teams, she was safely rescued from beneath the Amtrak train car. Her immediate transportation to the Christiana Trauma Center was arranged for medical treatment, though her condition has not yet been disclosed.
As part of the response effort, St. Francis Hospital staff and emergency responders from the county were also present, collaborating seamlessly to ensure the woman's rapid and secure transport to the trauma center.
