An investigation is underway by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) following an officer-involved shooting in Milton, Georgia, detailed in a press release from the agency. The incident, which occurred on June 14, 2024, resulted in the death of 31-year-old Shantidra Harris from Atlanta and injury to one police officer.

Based on the GBI statement, the sequence of events began when the Milton Police Department was alerted to a theft at a local Kohl's store. Police officers responded and pursued a red Dodge Journey, believed to be connected to the shoplifting. After stopping in a Walmart parking lot, two suspects fled the vehicle. The woman driving was apprehended while a man escaped, and during the chaos, Harris is reported to have hijacked a white Toyota Corolla.

As described by officials, while attempting to evade the scene, Harris accelerated the car, endangering an officer who stood before her. Struck by the vehicle, the officer discharged his firearm, critically wounding Harris. She was transported to a hospital where she was later pronounced dead. The injured officer received treatment for his injuries and was subsequently released.

The incident has prompted the GBI to investigate further, which is current protocol in officer-involved shootings. The outcome of their investigation will be shared with the Fulton County District Attorney's Office to decide on any potential actions.
