Glendale's police force visibility is stepping up with the opening of a new substation in Montrose, aimed at strengthening ties with the community. Announced on Friday, the Montrose Substation is positioned at 3600 Ocean View Blvd., and it's not just a strategic move to reduce crime—it's about fostering relations between the local police and the residents they serve.
During the ceremony, which drew community members and officials alike, Glendale Police Chief Manny Cid expressed the value of the substation. "Having a substation in Montrose is a big deal," Chief Cid explained, as per the City of Glendale. The partnership with the Montrose Shopping Park Association and the Montrose Verdugo City Chamber of Commerce plays a into this security strategy.
Complete with all the necessary resources for officers to comfortably do their work without the need to return to the main station downtown, the new substation replaces a formerly less convenient location above Honolulu Ave. It's also set to be the new HQ for the Montrose Shopping Park Association and provide a place for police to engage more effectively with the Montrose community.
City dignitaries and representatives for several state officials offered congratulatory remarks at the noon event, signaling broad support for an increased police presence in the northern part of Glendale. While the substation won't be open during regular hours, it provides an additional touchpoint for residents to connect with available officers, according to the official announcement.
