Chaos erupted on the streets of Hollywood last week when a suspect involved in a reported shooting led police on a high-speed pursuit that ended in a multi-vehicle crash. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the incident occurred on May 31 just after 9:30 p.m. when officers responded to a radio call about an assault with a deadly weapon.
Upon arriving at the 5600 block of Franklin Avenue, officers spotted someone matching the suspect's description. A foot chase followed, after which the suspect, later identified as Cornell Harvey was observed commandeering a parked vehicle and speeding off. Despite attempts to flee, Harvey crashed into two other cars at the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Vine Avenue. After the crash, Harvey attempted a getaway on foot, but was soon apprehended by the police, and a live round was recovered from his person.
The collision left one motorist with injuries severe enough to warrant hospitalization, while another complained of pain but declined further medical attention. Harvey himself suffered only minor abrasions and, after receiving medical clearance, was booked for Assault with a Deadly Weapon with his bail set at $30,000.
Investigators from the LAPD's Multi-Disciplinary Collision Investigation Team (MCIT) were dispatched to the scene to conduct a thorough examination of the crash. While the immediate danger has passed, the LAPD urges anyone with additional information to contact Traffic Group Detectives or to submit an anonymous tip through the LA Regional Crime Stoppers.
